    Liu Hanyuan, the Chairman of Board of Tongwei Group, invented cage fish cultivation technology and started his business.

    On March 2, 2004, Tongwei was grandly and officially listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

    On November 11, 2013, Tongwei Solar (Hefei) Co., Ltd. was put into production, and Tongwei officially entered the link of high-efficiency crystalline silicon solar cells.

    On November 18, 2015, TW Solar celebrated the 2nd anniversary and started the construction of the 5GW high-efficiency crystalline silicon cell project in Chengdu base started, thus entering the "Twin-City Era" of Chengdu and Hefei.
    In 2015, TW Solar's shipment of high-efficiency crystalline silicon cells exceeded 1.6GW.
    On December 30, 2015, the first “Fishery & PV Integration” project of Tongwei in Rudong, Jiangsu Province officially connected to the grid for power generation.

    On June 30, 2016, the first Chengdu-made high-efficiency crystalline silicon cell of Tongwei Solar rolled off the production line.

    On September 20, 2017, Tongwei celebrated the world's first industrial 435th anniversary and the world's first “Industrial 4.0” high-efficiency cell production line was officially put into production.
    On November 18, 2017, TW Solar started the construction of the 10GW high-efficiency crystalline silicon cell project in Hefei base.

  • 2018
    On May 28, 2018, TW Solar independently developed a 420W+ high-efficiency shingled module. The maximum power output of its 72-piece module reached 421.9W, breaking the world record for PERC modules and obtaining the world's first certificate under the new standards of shingled modules.
    On November 18, 2018, the Phase III project of TW Solar Chengdu Base put into operation the 1GW ultra-high-efficiency HJT cell project, and the Chengdu Base became the world's largest single-scale high-efficiency crystalline silicon cell project.
  • 2019
    TW Solar added an 8GW high-efficiency crystalline silicon cell project, bringing the cumulative production capacity to over 20GW. This further consolidated TW Solar's leading position as the world's largest solar cell wafer producer.
    On March 23, 2019, Phase IV of the 3.8GW high-efficiency crystalline silicon cell project of TW Solar Chengdu Base was launched.
    On March 27, 2019, TW Solar started the 10GW high-efficiency crystalline silicon cell project in Meishan Base.
    On June 20, 2019, the first cell of TW Solar’s ultra-efficient heterojunction solar cell project was successfully produced.
    On November 18, 2019, the Phase IV of the 3.8GW high-efficiency crystalline silicon cell project in TW Solar Chengdu Base was completed and put into operation. The production capacity of the Chengdu Base exceeded 10GW, making it the world's largest crystalline silicon solar cell manufacturer with the most advanced technology, production equipment, and the highest level of automation and intelligence in the PV industry.
  • 2020
    On April 21, 2020, Phase I project of the TW Solar Meishan base went into production, setting a world record for a single crystal silicon solar cell workshop with a capacity of 7.5GW.
    On March 25, 2020, TW Solar started the construction of 30GW high-efficiency silicon cell project in Jintang Base.
    On July 21, 2020, the market value and brand value of Tongwei both exceeded the 100 billion mark, making Tongwei the second PV enterprise in the world with a market value exceeding 100 billion in the current capital market.
  • 2021
    On February 28, 2021, the first cell of Phase II of TW Solar Meishan base went offline smoothly.
    On May 28, 2021, the first cell of Phase I of TW Solar Jintang base successfully rolled off the production line.
    TW Solar's annual production capacity of high-efficiency cells reached 45GW in 2021.
  • 2022
    On May 17, 2022, the first product of the N-type high-efficiency module project of TW Solar PV Research Center rolled off the production line. This product adopts the "TNC" (Tongwei N-type Passivated Contact Cell) technology independently developed by Tongwei, whose conversion efficiency exceeded 25.1%.
    On September 29, 2022, the high-efficiency PV module manufacturing base project of Tongwei was signed and settled in Yancheng.
    In October 2022, with the high-quality and high-efficiency Terra series shingled products, reliable brand credibility, and strong bankability, Tongwei was listed in the Tier-1 (first-level PV module manufacturer) list, which fully reflects the recognition of Tongwei's high-efficiency modules by professional research institutions in the world.
    On November 9, 2022, Tongwei signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with CR Power.
    On November 18, TW Solar celebrated the 9th anniversary. Under the general trend of global energy reform, TW Solar will continue to make steady efforts in the cell and module market. Adhering to strong investment in technology R&D and enhancing professional strength, TW Solar will try our best to meet the growing need for clean energy global customers, and contribute to the green and low-carbon sustainable development of the global energy sector.
  • 2023
    On January 1, 2023, the 25GW PV module project in TW Solar Yancheng Base officially started, promising to provide more high-efficiency module products to the global energy transformation and carbon neutrality goals.

Global Icon for Intelligent PV Manufacturing

TW Solar now has six bases in Hefei, Shuangliu, Meishan, Jintang, Yancheng, Nantong, and the Tonghe project, with an annual cell capacity of 70GW and an expected 130-150GW in 2024-2026, of which large-size cell capacity will account for more than 90%. TW Solar has a 14GW annual production capacity of high-efficiency modules, which is estimated to reach 80GW by the end of 2023. Annual production capacity of solar cells is expected to be 130-150GW in 2024-2026.
Jintang Base
Jintang Base is located in Huaikou Town, Jintang County, Chengdu. The 30GW high-efficiency crystal silicon cell and supporting projects will be implemented in phases. It will be gradually completed and put into operation in the next 3-5 years. The project has an investment of about RMB 20 billion, an estimated new output value of about RMB 70 billion, more than 5,000 job opportunities, and an annual tax revenue of about RMB 2 billion. The construction of the first phase of the 6.6GW project started on March 25, 2020, and the first cell cutting went offline in May 2021. The first cell of the second phase of the project went offline on September 16, 2022.
With the Jintang project as a pilot, Tongwei will actively carry out 5G applications in the industrial Internet field, building the Jintang project as a model of 5G+ advanced manufacturing and promoting the construction of PV green smart town by relying on the industrial manufacturing scene of Tongwei. Jintang Project will make full use of Chengdu as the bridgehead of the Dual-City Economic Circle in Chengdu and Chongqing, the geographic and logistic advantages of China-Europe Freight Trains, and the advantages of hydropower to build a major production base for the export of photovoltaic products in western China and the European market. After reaching full production capacity, it will provide crucial industrial support for the high-quality development of the Dual-City Economic Circle in Chengdu and Chongqing.
Meishan Base
TW Solar Meishan Base locates in Ganmei Industrial Park, Meishan City, Sichuan Province. On January 25, 2019, the Meishan Municipal Government, Ganzi Prefecture Government, and Tongwei Group held a signing ceremony for the Tongwei High-tech Green Industrial Park Project and the 10GW High-efficiency Crystalline Silicon Cell Project. On March 27, 2019, the High-efficiency Crystalline Silicon Cell Project of TW Solar Meishan Base started construction. On April 21, 2020, the first phase was completed and put into operation, and the second phase of the project started at the same time. It took only 36 days for the Meishan Project to finalize the investment after the first contact, 50 days for formal signing, and 110 days for the official start of construction, creating a new “Tongwei speed” and “Ganmei speed” for project investment.
On February 28, 2021, the first cell of the second phase of Meishan Base officially rolled off the production line. The second phase covers a total area of 160,000 square meters, with a workshop area of 80,000 square meters. There are 16 fully automatic high-efficiency and intelligent crystalline silicon cell production lines. With the continuous improvement of product technology and manufacturing process, the second phase will be more automated, intelligent, and digital, providing a strong boost to the PV industry and drive the rapid transformation of the energy sector. After its completion, the production capacity of TW Solar Meishan base will reach 15GW, further consolidating Tongwei's position as a leading cell supplier.
Hefei Base
The Hefei base, which was put into production on Nov 18, 2013, is located in a high-tech zone in Hefei, Anhui province. The first phase of the Anhui project was completed on Jan 8, 2019. The project fully adopted rear-surface passivation technology, mainly based on the unmanned intelligent manufacturing route of high-efficiency monocrystalline batteries, and built intelligent factories and digital workshops to further improve TW Solar's profitability, enhance market competitiveness, and consolidate TW Solar's leading position in the high-efficiency crystalline silicon cell industry.The Hefei Base currently has a production capacity of 8GW for half-cell modules and 6GW for shingled modules. The products have been applied in PV power generation projects in many regional markets across China and have been exported to more than 30 countries and regions worldwide.
Shuangliu Base
Shuangliu Base is located in Shuangliu District, Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The first phase was completed and put into operation on June 30, 2016, and the construction cycle took only seven months. It created a "Tongwei Speed", "Shuangliu Speed," and "Chengdu Speed" and has also become a model demonstrative project for the global photovoltaic industry of efficient completion, quick putting into production, quickly reaching production cap, and quickly making profit. The second phase was put into production on September 20, 2017, and the production lines have been fully upgraded to fully automatic unmanned manufacturing, which took the lead in realizing digital workshops and intelligent factory and built up a national intelligent manufacturing demonstration base. The third phase was put into production on November 18, 2018. The project fully adopts rear-surface passivation technology, and mainly adopts the unmanned intelligent manufacturing route of high-efficiency monocrystalline cells. It has become a high-efficiency crystalline silicon solar cell project with leading technology, production equipment, automation, and intelligence in the global PV industry. The fourth phase was put into production on November 18, 2019, which set the new record for the production scale of a single workshop, and is a model workshop for smart factories and digital workshops in the global PV industry. The project has a total of 16 fully enclosed automatic production lines for intelligent manufacturing of high-efficiency crystalline silicon cell slices. All of them are producing large-sized cells with lower production cost and higher single-cell wattage, adding new momentum to TW Solar's intelligent, digital, modern, and refined management.
Yancheng Base
Tongwei (Yancheng) PV Industry Base, located in Yancheng Economic and Technological Development Zone, is the first PV module project invested and constructed by Tongwei in Jiangsu Province. It mainly produces 182mm and 210mm large-size high-efficiency modules. The project is expected to invest about 4 billion yuan in fixed assets. The construction has started and it is planned to be completed and put into production by the end of May 2023. The Yancheng Base adopts the integrated construction mode of "Sci-Tech & Industry” integration and give full play to Tongwei's rich experience in building smart green PV parks and starred workshops. Based on the "5G +" digital management model, Yancheng Base will be equipped with the most advanced production equipment in the industry and adopt Tongwei TNC/TPC and other technology routes to build a green, streamlined, stable, and reliable production network of high-quality module products to maximizes power generation efficiency and reduces LCOE.
Nantong Base
Tonghe Project
The Tonghe project is jointly invested and constructed by TW Solar and Trina Solar. The total area of the project is about 920 mu, with an investment of 6 billion yuan, and a supporting production base with an annual output of 15GW high-efficiency crystalline silicon cells and 15GW cutting capabilities. Tonghe New Energy will give full play to the leading advantages of TW Solar and Trina Solar in all aspects of industry chain, further strengthen the strategic cooperation relationship, and create a new industry development pattern of professional division of labor, misplaced development, and mutual benefit. After reaching full production, Tonghe New Energy is estimated to have an annual sales income of 12 billion yuan, and an annual tax payment of 300 million yuan. Tonghe New Energy is a joint and integrated layout of the two sides of TW Solar and Trina Solar and an essential method to achieve the stability of raw material supply and industrial chain. It guarantees the production of large-size cells and modules of Trina Solar, the export of Tongwei products, reducing Tongwei's costs, and promoting efficiencies, leading to the enlargement of global market share.

Tongwei 5G Super Smart Factory

On Sept 20, 2017, the world's first industry 4.0 high-efficiency cell cutting production line in TW Solar was officially put into operation, setting a new benchmark of smart manufacturing for the industry. With equipment interconnection, refined management, quality control, process integration, and virtual and real immersion, the Smart Manufacturing Production Line of TW Solar reduces 62% of labor and 30% of energy consumption, and bring an 161% increase of production efficiency.

By now, TW Solar has built and launched a total of 80 intelligent manufacturing production lines composed of automatic gripping robotic arms and intelligent conveying robots, with a total of more than 1000 conveying robots, creating the world’s most intelligent green factory with the highest mass production conversion efficiency.

Meanwhile, TW Solar has always led the industry in smart manufacturing from completing and putting into operation the world's first Industry 4.0 high-efficiency cell production line to building the world's first PV+5G application base.
